CORAZON TO HOST ANNUAL HEART CAMP DANCE
June 1, 2004 - Pittsburgh, PA—The Heart Experts at Corazon hosted the June 17 th Annual Dance for the kids of Heart Camp, an outstanding Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh tradition at Camp Kon-O-Kwee near Zelienople, PA. The annual four-day overnight camping adventure is designed specifically for children ages eight to 15 who have some form of heart disease.
The Corazon team joined the campers for dinner, then created a Mexican hacienda in the lodge for the night’s event. Complete with snacks, non-alcoholic margaritas and sangrias, colorful decorations, and a photo booth, the dance was a fun experience not only for the kids, but for Corazon as well. With giveaways, prize drawings, and night of dancing, the kids were able to enjoy their last night at Camp in a FIESTA-themed setting.
The program, which began in 1991, provides campers with a traditional, though medically supervised, environmental learning experience with other children facing similar health concerns. Other traditional activities at camp include campfires, hayrides, hiking, fishing, canoeing, and swimming, as well as an “Ask the Counselors” program, in which campers can ask the older heart patients about their problems and how they dealt with them.
Corazon views the Camp as a wonderful opportunity for young heart patients to forge friendships and share a common bond with older heart patients who can serve as role models, and provide support and encouragement for their health challenges. Dr. William Neches, camp founder, and all the volunteer doctors and nurses and camp support staff make an invaluable contribution to the quality of life for these children.
Corazon is committed to the mission of Heart Camp, which is to improve the lives of these very special children suffering from heart disease. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of Corazon’s book, Getting to the Heart of It, benefits Heart Camp.
Corazon offers a full spectrum of cardiovascular program development to national clients, from strategic planning through clinical implementation. Corazon combines business planning, market and financial analysis, feasibility studies, clinical operations, Heart Hospital design, best practice benchmarking, and staff education for newly established or existing programs. Corazon is a 2003 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Company.
