The votes have been cast and all the ballots counted, and one Ross Township health care business has been named one of the top 50 places to work in Pittsburgh.
Corazon Consulting, a health care firm along McKnight Road, came in fourth place in the business' with less than 50 employees category in rankings named by a local publication. The business specializes in heart and vascular program development, cardiovascular consulting and recruitment services, including feasibility studies and business planning.
The small business is joined on the list by a variety of organizations, in-cluding Legend Financial Advisors, Greater Pennsylvania Alzheimer's Association, Empire Today, Just Harvest and WeatherWise USA.
One employee was not surprised that Corazon placed high in the ranking. It all comes down to how each individual is treated in their working environment.
"Corazon is one of the best places to work in Pittsburgh, and they deserve this recognition for many reasons," says Amy Newell, Corazon senior consultant.
"I feel that I'm not an employee but a valued member of the team. It is quite gratifying to be recognized not just professionally but personally."
Newell says Corazon leaders continue to recognize how difficult it can be to balance work and family obligations. Business officials always work to accommodate the needs of each em-ployee.
This is not the first time Corazon officials have been recognized. Last November, the business was named one of the best places to work in Pennsylvania. The business also was ranked as one of the fastest growing businesses in the region in 2004 and 2006. Previously, Corazon was named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Company in 2003.
While businesses handle challenges in a different ways, it is the cooperation among staff members that keeps Corazon working like a well-oiled machine.
"Each and every individual contributes to the success of the company," says Michelle Marie Danko, office coordinator. "The entire staff makes the company the success that it is and will continue to be."
Danko joined Corazon's staff after working more than 20 years at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. While she would not trade any of her time while at the hospital, she is grateful to be able to learn and grow with the company for years to come.
Corazon's leadership team continually strives to accomplish its goals by giving employees an opportunity to play an important role in the business' future. One leader says it is the clients who can truly rate the success of the company.
"Our clients view us as their partners," says Sue Heck, vice president. "Many clients have used our services for multiple engagements and bring us back into their organizations."
Now that the small business has been named among the best places to work, Corazon staff members continue to work toward future goals.
"The future is very bright for Corazon," says Newell, who has been with the firm for two years. "We have set goals and been able to achieve them whether it was in the short or long term. The employees are the future of Corazon as we continue to offer outstanding service."
